Holi the festival of colors is back again to celebrate the bond of love and happiness. Whole India is getting ready to celebrate this festival in a grand way. Being the festival of spring, the celebration begins with Holika Dahan also known as Choti Holi on 1st March 2018 followed by Holi celebration on 2nd March 2018. Playing with colors followed by dancing, singing, and an elaborate feast completes the celebration across India. The frolic, as well as fight with colors, happens in the open streets, parks, outside temples and also in many residential buildings.

Thandai, dal kachori, gol gappe, paapri chaat, dahi bhalle, kachoris, chhole bhature, and Gujiya and kanji vada are some of the traditional Indian dishes which are served on this auspicious occasion of Holi. Holi is also known as the festival of brotherhood as on this day we all forget and forgive all errors and conflicts between each other. In various parts of India Holi is popular in different names. In Bengal, it is called dol Purnima and in some parts, it is known as Rangapanchami. Gulal or Abir is the powder which is used for playing with colors. Traditionally use of medicinal herbs was made to make gulal but now many are using herbal and chemical free powder for the celebration.

There are many Hindu mythological stories surrounding this festival which is also celebrated by many Non-Hindus like by Jains and the Newar Buddhists. In India it’s a national holiday and celebration is done in full swing
